In an article for Insurance Business Canada magazine, Marc Aviva, our VP, Product & Disability Management, says it’s time to advance the conversation on workplace mental health from acceptance to adequate support. He explains why there is an increasing need for employers to focus more heavily on the mental wellbeing of their employees with flexible health benefit options.
According to research commissioned by Medavie Blue Cross, over 68 per cent of HR professionals have seen an increase in employees reporting mental health challenges. In addition, 69 per cent of those surveyed have seen an increase in employee absenteeism, and 61 per cent have seen an increase in mental health disability claims.
By offering employees the choice and flexibility they want, employers can empower them to take control of their mental health and make decisions that best address their unique and changing needs.
