Through Evolved Specialty Drug Approach and Drug Cost Solutions

Moncton, NB – For more than 20 years, Medavie Blue Cross has led the way in managing prescription drug costs. Over the years, our methods have proven to ensure plan sustainability even with rising specialty drug costs. Today, while the industry focuses on plan design to manage drug costs, we are at the forefront in developing strategic solutions that include disease states and treatments. These solutions include comprehensive plans that ensure the right drugs are available at the right time.

Medavie Blue Cross recently added tools and resources to complement its already well-formed drug management program. The new additions include a patient-first network, specialty pharmacy agreements and strategic partnerships. Combined with the resources already available such as the medication advisory panel, special authorization process, manufacturer agreements and a provider network, this evolved strategy gives us flexibility to efficiently handle new drug and disease trends.

Managing high cost drugs has never been so important, and we have the ability to manage the entire process in-house. This allows for greater accountability and consistency, like a one-stop-shop for clients and patients managing health concerns and specialty drugs.

“As a health benefits partner, we don’t just pay claims,” said Theresa Rose, Director, Drug Management Solutions at Medavie Blue Cross. “Our evolved approach to specialty drugs management ensures plans remain cost effective, but also balanced so that members can access these life changing drugs. For us, it’s really about impacting the future of health care and keeping plans stable for our clients.”

“As a long-standing Medavie Blue Cross client, our plans have remained stable, comprehensive and affordable without compromising our employees’ health and well-being,” said Megan Gee, Employee Benefits Officer at the University of Prince Edward Island. “We believe their forward-thinking approach to drug plan management has been key in delivering a sustainable and valuable benefit plan for our employees.”
